Scalable City

Scalable City

Scalable City is a project by Sheldon Brown and the Experimental Game Lab. The world needs more of these types of experiments with the game space. As the 3-d gaming environment becomes a more well defined aspect of our lives, people need to deconstruct these environments so we can really see what these places mean to us. Art has always strove to make people look at ordinary situations in a new light, and that is what the people at the Experimental Game Lab are doing. Hats off to them. Scalable city is an introspective look at a certain type of building (particularly American Suburbia) . This is what the sims would have looked like if Terry Gilliam had been the top designer.

rail track art

Yasuhiko Hayashi and Yusuke Nakano have made this grand installation by using model train tracks as a medium with which they draw their lines. Very ingenious and creative way to re think an otherwise fairly banal object.

Free Mc Chris Album

mc chris

From the man who brought us MC Pee Pants and Bobbafette’s vette (possibly the first nerdcore song to reach a wide audience) comes his first album “Life’s a bitch and I’m her pimp”. Mc Chris has mainstream appeal because he’s simply a great Mc. As you may have noticed I am scouring the web for sites containing free nerdcore hip hop. I think this would serve as a great introduction to those interested in nerdcore and hopefully a perentage will go on to buy some albums as well. Let me know of any other pages I should know about via the “submit a link” button in the right hand column.

Mc Frontalot’s Free Mp3s

Sunday, October 14th, 2007

Tucked away in Frontalot’s site is a page full of nice mp3s which are free to download.  Among these is a track that all nerdcore afficianadoes should have, entitled well, um, “nerdcore hip hop”. Since MCFrontalot is credited for being the man who coined the term nerdcore. He should be a part of everyone’s nerdy hip hop collection. Enjoy

Video Game Orchestra

Saturday, October 13th, 2007

An orchestra plays along to a visual backdrop of video games. As classical music becomes more and more stale with each passing year, I think it is important for these old institutions to embrace contemporary culture in a thoughtful way. This performance may seem a bit gimicky but the audience’s reaction and interaction is something that does not often happen during a classical music concert. This audience felt they had permission to laugh, and cheer during their favorite parts of the performance, and that is what is important. Generally classic music attendees are supposed to have a passionless, cold experience, and certainly not exclaim their connection to the music being played. Everyone laughed and cheered during this performance of video game sounds and music because it was something that they all had a connection with in one way or another.

Star Wars Trumpet

free nerdcore hip hop
Pop on over to Ytcracker.com and download a new hot mixtape from YtCracker entitled Dirty Nerdy.

I also couldn’t believe I didn’t know about this huge collection of super hot nerdcore tracks neatly made available via Yt’s site.  This is the way it should be done.  Take note all of you out there that don’t even enable the download option on MySpace! Yt still gives tons of his tracks away for free, and he is still on top.  Respect.
